We
have some truly great news! A new organization for all theatre organ
enthusiasts seriously interested in spreading the word about these
wonderful instruments has been formed. It is the "Theatre Organ Society
International" (TOSI) and is a membership
organization for public and charitable purposes whose aim is to promote
and present theatre organ performance as an internationally recognized
art form.
This TOSI aim will be
implemented, in part, by the following:
* Performance programming
aimed
specifically for the general public as well as enthusiasts.
* Performance programming utilizing fine organs, including several in
venues not readily accessible.
* Programming involving performances by a wide range of accomplished
artists, many of whom are all too infrequently heard.
* Promoting theatre organ performance as a popular entertainment icon,
thereby providing a unique musical experience.
* Programming scheduled within reasonably short time frames, thereby
permitting local audiences to participate without incurring significant
travel and housing expense.
* Forming international alliances emphasizing the international
character of the theatre organ.
* Establishing a clearinghouse for theatre organ placement.
* Having a Board of Directors of international character responsible
for all activities of the organization without having any additional
and cumbersome administrative structure.
* Publishing a newsletter for all members (likely on a quarterly basis
initially).
* Publishing a quality magazine with general appeal for members and
non-members alike available on a subscription basis (likely on a
semi-annual basis initially).
You will note that these
characteristic activities and approaches describe an organization,
which intentionally commits itself to filling in many gaps, which
currently exist in the presentation and promotion of the theatre organ.
We are unaware of any other group of enthusiasts, which operates in
this way. Hence, TOSI is clearly complementary to all other such groups
and is in competition with none of them. Additionally, we will
aggressively pursue cooperative ventures with other theatre organ
organizations around the world and work closely with them in a spirit
of unity.
We invite you to join
us in this exciting new venture.
